For the first time since 2019, the 2022 annual Tartan Day Parade in New York will be hosted in person. Showcasing pipers and drummers who'll honour the contribution Scots have made to the USA, the parade will be led by this year's Grand Marshal, talented Scottish actress, Karen Gillan.
The annual Tartan Day parade takes place on 6th Avenue and is the centrepiece of the Scotland Week calendar. It's a parade that embodies the pride and passion of Scotland.
Led this year by honorary Grand Marshal, Karen Gillan, the parade will strike a universal chord from international pipers and drummers, being loud and proud to celebrate the Scottish contribution made to America. Karen will easily fill the shoes of past marshals such as Billy Connolly, Brian Cox, Kevin McKidd, Alan Cumming and Sam Heughan, together with former New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg.
The New York Tartan Day Committee, said:
The National Tartan Day New York Committee is delighted to welcome everyone to NYC Tartan Week 2022, with our festivities returning in person for the first time in two years. We're especially excited to join this year's Grand Marshal, Scottish actress Karen Gillan, for the 24th annual NYC Tartan Day Parade as we proudly celebrate the contributions of Scottish people and culture to America
Tartan Day has been celebrated since 1998 and, over the years, the single day of celebration has expanded into a week-long programme of events promoting Scotland in North America.
Gillan will helm the parade, followed by a colourful procession of Pipe & Drum bands, Highland dancers, Scottish family clans and more
